Salt & Cedar
Salt & Cedar is a letterpress studio in the heart of Eastern Market in Detroit. Letterpress printing is the focal point for SALT & CEDAR's investigations into means of production and dissemination--tapping into creative economies and generating fresh approaches and alliances. SALT & CEDAR is excited to host visiting artists, curate exhibitions, offer workshops, and be available to the city as a resource for the arts.
We produce custom invitations, calling cards, stationery, booklets, and posters. Our workshops, led by renowned instructors, include traditional and experimental printing, 'zine making, book structures, and papermaking. Within the 3,000 square foot space, farm-to-table food events, a pop-up cinema featuring rare 16-mm films, exhibitions, dinner theatres, readings, design lectures, and special curricular offerings are slated with a diversity of cultural partners. Since opening in June 2012, SALT & CEDAR has designed and produced a book, a suite of broadsides, and invitations for MOCAD, as well as deluxe editions for private clients. Additionally, the studio has created the brand identity for Detroit Sound Conservancy, printed tickets and posters for Trinosophes, designed collateral for various Detroit businesses, and contributed to the international broadside project Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here.
